Highway Department
The function of the Highway Department is to maintain county roads, cattle guards, culverts, and bridges.
The crew maintains over 800 miles of county roads. They repair and replace 90 bridges; some of those bridges were built in the 1930’s. The crew replaces any damaged culverts; and repairs & replaces cattle guards.
The Highway Superintendent for Butte County is a working superintendent; meaning you will find him out working alongside the crew running equipment and maintaining roads. He is also the Weed & Pest Supervisor.
The staff in the office is available to answer questions regarding care of roads, bridges, cattle guards, and culverts. Our goal is to keep the county roads, bridges, cattle guards, and culverts in good condition.
